Dear Musician,
Local 33 is considering bringing Dr. Heather Malyuk, Audiologist, to the Tucson area for a “Group Wellness Check.” As written in her website, “Soundcheck Audiology is a mobile concierge wellness practice founded by Dr. Mayuk, a musician and audiologist, who hails from Northeast Ohio, but is known internationally as an expert clinician public speaker in the field of hearing wellness.” Dr. Malyuk has worked with such organizations as the National Symphony Orchestra, Chicago Lyric Opera Orchestra, and the Minnesota Orchestra, as well as popular acts such as Crosby Stills and Nash, Beyonce, and the Dave Matthews Band. You can see a more complete listing of her clients here. Our past AFM Convention and Conference Delegates have returned from these events with positive information about this program.
Dr. Malyuk would give a free one hour educational lecture on hearing as it relates to musicians and offer interested musicians the opportunity for a private appointment with her. The appointment includes full hearing testing, ear wax cleaning, and ear impressions for custom hearing protection. The impressions would be valid for two years, in the event the musician would like to order custom hearing protection at a later date. The appointments would cost, at most, $95. (The cost would drop to $80 if she had 46 or more appointments, and to $70 for more than 60 appointments.) Custom filtered earplugs would cost $195.
As this would represent a significant cost to Local 33, and as Dr. Malyuk requires a minimum of 25 private appointments, we are sending this preliminary email to gauge interest. If you feel you would likely take advantage of an individual appointment at the cost of $95, please reply as such to this email. If you know you would not, please also respond accordingly. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to ask. We have not engaged her for specific dates at this point in time. All musicians would be welcome, regardless of union or symphony membership, so please feel free to forward this information as you see fit.
